Novena to Señor de los Milagros (Lord of Miracles)

Psalm 22

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so far from saving me,
    so far from my cries of anguish?
My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
    by night, but I find no rest.Crucified Jesus

Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;
    you are the one Israel praises.
In you our ancestors put their trust;
    they trusted and you delivered them.
To you they cried out and were saved;
    in you they trusted and were not put to shame.

But I am a worm and not a man,
    scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
All who see me mock me;
    they hurl insults, shaking their heads.
“He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
    “let the Lord rescue him.
Let him deliver him,
    since he delights in him.”

Yet you brought me out of the womb;
    you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast.
10 From birth I was cast on you;
    from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

11 Do not be far from me,
    for trouble is near
    and there is no one to help.

12 Many bulls surround me;
    strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
13 Roaring lions that tear their prey
    open their mouths wide against me.
14 I am poured out like water,
    and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart has turned to wax;
    it has melted within me.
15 My mouth is dried up like a potsherd,
    and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;
    you lay me in the dust of death.

16 Dogs surround me,Crucified Jesus
    a pack of villains encircles me;
    they pierce my hands and my feet.
17 All my bones are on display;
    people stare and gloat over me.
18 They divide my clothes among them
    and cast lots for my garment.

19 But you, Lord, do not be far from me.
    You are my strength; come quickly to help me.
20 Deliver me from the sword,
    my precious life from the power of the dogs.
21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions;
    save me from the horns of the wild oxen.

22 I will declare your name to my people;
    in the assembly I will praise you.
23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!
    All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
    Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
24 For he has not despised or scorned
    the suffering of the afflicted one;
he has not hidden his face from him
    but has listened to his cry for help.Wood and Nails

25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly;
    before those who fear you I will fulfill my vows.
26 The poor will eat and be satisfied;
    those who seek the Lord will praise him—
    may your hearts live forever!

27 All the ends of the earth
    will remember and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
    will bow down before him,
28 for dominion belongs to the Lord
    and he rules over the nations.

29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship;
    all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—
    those who cannot keep themselves alive.
30 Posterity will serve him;
    future generations will be told about the Lord.
31 They will proclaim his righteousness,
    declaring to a people yet unborn:
    He has done it!

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all my sins, because of Your just punishments, but most of all because they offend You, my God, who arsenjordelosmil10e all-good and deserving of all my love. Yes, Lord our God, beloved Crucified Christ: for the crown of thorns that pierce your temples and torment your most holy head; by those nails that pierce your feet and your adorable hands; for those who did so many lashes of your sacrosanct one sore body; by that bitter gall and vinegar to your tongue; by these insults and blasphemies cruelly wounded and hurt your purest ears, your most sensitive soul; for that spear broke your sides and opened your divine heart; for those three hours of terrible agony; for your last words and your last breath, forgive our sins and hear the prayers that come to introduce you to your bloodied feet.

This we beg through the merits of your Sorrowful Mother, whose intercession You can not neglect as She is our Mother and Helper of men.

O Mother of Sorrows!, our beloved intercessor, make our pain and contrition, our compassion and our tears and our pleads which we offer Him through this novena, known to thy Crucified Son, for His Glory and for our good. Amen

Señor de los Milagros

Day One

Considerations

The adorable Master has already suffered the torment of the sweat of blood in the Garden of Olives. The night was infinite agonies and terrible sufferings after the kiss of Judas. From court to court He’s been taken him for a wicked judge to condemn Him to death on a cross. Pilate makes has him so cruelly scourged, that His body becomes a single wound; so many scourges have fallen on His back and His blood flows profusely.

The dreadful martyrdom has spread throughout His body until no healthy part in Him remained, according to the words of the prophet Isaiah: “Just as many were horrified to see him, because he was so disfigured that there was no man, nor had He a human aspect” (Is . 52, 14). It’s that they have put on His head a crown of sharp thorns that pierced his temples and caused sharp pain as He cried tears of blood.

So, wounded, crowned with thorns and tied, the Divine Nazarene is brought to the square of Jerusalem, where, seated on His throne, Pilate awaits Him to sentence Him to death on a cross. The Divine Lamb heard the fatal sentence and accepted it with a love of generous giving. He is presented, then, with the cross, to take over his shoulders and bear the weight of the sin of mankind. See how He lovingly embraces it, He kisses it with inexpressible tenderness and tears are of humble acceptance. The great fact of redemption is getting to its conclusion: “However, He had our sufferings, He bore our pain. We thought Him to be punished, and afflicted and humiliated by God, but it were our transgressions which pierced Him and our faults which crushed Him. He suffered the punishment for our good and with His wounds we are healed “(cf. Is. 53.4-5). He carries the cross on His shoulders and begins the ascent to Calvary where He will die crucified for our love.

Say your petition here, with great faith, firm conviction and confidence in God, followed by a few moments of silence, deep trust and serenity.

PRAYER

Oh most loving Lord of Miracles!, whom by pure love for man and to deliver him from sin and eternal death which he deserved, have wished to be sentenced to death on the cross: please hear my prayers. My life, Lord, is full of sins and imperfections and my misery and disease are tormenting me. You only, my God, Thou only, can wash away my sins, dropping on my painful being even a drop of Your precious blood. You only, my God, Thou only, can attend to my great and many great needs and relieve me from all the aches and pains and sufferings in this valley of tears and pain. Thou only, O Lord, Thou only, who have loved us to give yourself to death for us and by whom we have been given all things by the Heavenly Father. Thou only, O Lord, Thou only, can remedy the need that I’ve come to deposit at your divine feet.

Ea, beloved Lord of Miracles !, give me a look of compassion and graciously hear my prayer. Amen

Señor de los Milagros

Day two

Start with Psalm 22, Act of Contrition and Daily Prayer.

Considerations

After three painful falls with the cross in street of bitterness; after the most bitter encounter with his Blessed Mother, with the pious woman Veronica and with the holy women, helped by Simon of Cyrene, Jesus arrives at Calvary. Kneeling with hands folded over his chest, He raised his eyes to heaven and He offered again to His Father the sacrifice of his life to save the world. Meanwhile, the executioners prepare the altar of the cross.

Let’s witness this painful scene: how He had to die naked, tearing his clothes that were already attached to the wounds, with such horrific cruelty that with that pull they hurt even more the suffering humanity of Jesus. He was ordered to lay on the painful cross and he obeys. The cross is rough and hard. His pillow is the sharp thorns of the crown; over the rough edges of the cross is His back which is one, deep and painful sore; the hammer is raised to hit the nail into right hand. It falls on the thick nail whose tip penetrates the flesh, thorns the nerves and separates the bones, causing Him to shudder of pain and to moan sadly during this divine martyr. His whole body writhes in pain in such an excruciating martyrdom. But another greater torment awaits: for His left hand and feet reach the holes which beforehand were opened, the executioners tied ropes and strings, and kicking on the cross and into the side of the same Lord, they pull with cruelty, that the holes, the arms and chest are dislocated from each other with a dull crunch and with infinite pains from the Lord. The skin of the arm and the most holy feet is being flayed, bare bones and raw, and has torn the wound in the first nail with very painful ripping. The executioners turn down the cross, while His Divine Majesty remains upside down.

He could have said, “… I am a worm and not a man, shame of humanity, people’s despise” (Psalm 22.7), as announced by the psalmist. With ropes and ladders raised up the cross with the divine victim and suddenly dropped into the hole that had been dug beforehand. What a horrible shudder !, how all the wounds of the nails widened and flared up all the holy body that sprout red blood staining his humanity.

Say your petition here, with great faith, firm conviction and confidence in God, followed by a few moments of silence, deep trust and serenity.

PRAYER

Oh I beloved Crucified Christ! I shudder at the thought of pain that I am the cause of your unspeakable torments. Ah !, Lord forgive me my sins, because of such horrific tortures. Permit me, Lord, that I can also embrace with my cross and follow with You down the street of bitterness and accompany You in Your painful falls and the infinite bitterness. Let me console You as the holy woman Veronica and the holy women of Jerusalem and as You, I can offer the sacrifice of my life to the heavenly Father to reach the summit of the Holy Mountain. Adorable Victim!, Oh let me feel the pain of punch presses of your crown of thorns, and torment the rough bed of your cross. Let me feel the pain of your bones creaking dislocated and of Your nerves in terrible tension. Let me feel the humiliation, without likeness, to come up with your face on the ground, of clinched nails, and being trampled by the executioners as a vile worm, scorned by men and disposal of the people. I, Lord, want to suffer with You on the cross of my duty till I die. Give me the graces that I need for that and grant me the favor I come to ask rendered at your blessed feet. Amen.

— Pray the Final Daily Prayer

Day Three

Start with Psalm 22, Act of Contrition and Daily Prayer.

Considerations

The earth, in its swift run, allows the sun to be shining at its zenith. At this time, from that Good Friday, Jesus, suspended between heaven and earth on the cross and from this point on the hill of Calvary in the Holy City, contemplates the entire universe. The three hours of endless agony of mortal anguish start, excruciating pain and immense resignation. If He leans His head on the wood, the thorns are deeply pressed; if He dropped His head on His shoulders, the torment doubled because it hurt them and it hurt His head; if He leaned it forward, He would increase the weight of His body and it would widen the wounds of His hands and feet, already quite enlarged with His body weight. I would like to find relief for Your pain! But He only sees around him, bloodthirsty and ruthless executioners who rejoice in horrendous martyrdom: “Hey, you who would destroy the temple and build it in three days! Save yourself, come down from the cross!” (Mk. 15, 29b-30).

United in this chorus of jeers and taunts of the chief priests saying: “He saved others; himself he can not save! The Messiah! The King of Israel! Come down now from the cross, so that we can see and believe! “ (Mk. 15, 32b).

All who sawe Him and passed by mocked him as the prophet Isaiah said many centuries earlier: “I gave my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled my hair: I hid not my face to the insults and spitting “(cf. Is. 50: 6). Also the Psalmist had announced this: “… all who see me laugh at me, grinning, shaking their heads …” (Psalm 22: 8). What will the meekest Lamb do? Will He engage the divine power to get Him off the cross and escape the torment and scorn? Oh no, there remains the Lord to death! Meanwhile, He elevates His look to the heavens and says: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Lk. 23, 34th).

Say your petition here, with great faith, firm conviction and confidence in God, followed by a few moments of silence, deep trust and serenity.

PRAYER

Oh beloved Lamb! Also Forgive me also for Thy mercy! I know well what I do offending you with my sins, with them I renew the torments of your passion and I crucify You again. Forgive me for my sins and permit me to present You some comfort in your painful agonies and do reparation somehow for the bloody mockery of your enemies. Let me receive in my hands your aching head so that the thorns don’t press in it any longer; for that I present the good deeds, which helped by your grace I promise to perform. Let the sweet weight of your body lean on my shoulders so that the wounds of your feet and your hands are no longer widened they and intoxicate me with the precious blood that spring from them. Finally, let me give You all my love and all my affections and I render my blessings and praises in reparation of the mockery and blasphemy of the scribes and priests, of the bloodthirsty rabble who delighted in your horrible suffering. Give me too, like them, Your merciful forgiveness and grant me the grace I ask in this novena. Amen.

Señor de los Milagros

Day Four

Start with Psalm 22, Act of Contrition and Daily Prayer.

Considerations

The agony of the Nazarene becomes unbearable. The doctors of the law and the chief priests have equalized the plebs to utter blasphemies and reproaches against the divine Crucified. Jesus looks sadly and with infinite patience to that deicide mob, drunk with hate, laugh out loud at the infinite pain of the victim. The sweet resignation of the Divine Master exacerbates the bad thief, who stirs enraged against the Lord and yells: “Are not you the Messiah So save yourself and us.” (Lk 23: 39b.).

The Good Thief, whose gaze met the deep aching eyes of Mary, whose heart had been touched by Grace to see the unalterable patience of Jesus, despite the horrific taunts from the crowd and evil thief, he turned to him and he replied: “Don’t you even fear God, you, who are in the same condemnation? Ours is just, as we are getting what our deeds deserve, but this man has done nothing wrong” (Lk 23, 40.) . A shiver of sorrow for their sins moved his chest, he felt a surge of love and compassion for his divine partner, whom he recognized, at this moment, the Divine Messiah; he turned to him and with humble trust he said: “Jesus, remember me when you come as King” (Lk 23, 42.).

This lucky thief, says St. Leo the Great, this criminal who dies in an infamous gibbet, is the first prophet, the first evangelist, the first martyr, the first confessor of Jesus Christ; and so great was his faith, so firm was his hope that he deserved to hear this wonderful promise: “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23, 43.).

Say your petition here, with great faith, firm conviction and confidence in God, followed by a few moments of silence, deep trust and serenity.

PRAYER

Oh, Savior of the world! in your hands are placed the keys of David to open the eternal mansion. Open for me, for pity, for me too, like the good thief, the gates of heaven which closed my sins, and close for me the doors of hell which, for them, I deserved. I also feel in my soul, as the compassionate good thief, the insults and blasphemies which, against You, lead the world corrupted, especially in this age of unbelief and apostasy, following the example of inveterate thief. Today the blasphemous laugh out loud in front of your bloody image, make fun of your doctrine and trample your truths and your precepts. You die on that cross to offer salvation to all men and not all men accept the gift of your redemption and reject, until death, the blessings of Heaven. Even today blasphemers, who continue to flout your blood and your death, make mockery of your infinite patience and curse. The bad thief blaspheming continues despite the loving call of the grace of the divine Priest who dies at his side; despite the charitable admonitions of his fellow ordeal, he dies cursing. Do not permit, Lord of Miracles, such great disgrace to this, your servant, who implores your pity. My inside feels, sweet look of Sorrowful Mary, the deep regret of having offended You and I could hear at the hour of death the sweet words You said to the good thief: “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23. , 43). Give me also, O Lord of Miracles, the grace that I come to implore at your blessed feet. Amen.

Day Five

Start with Psalm 22, Act of Contrition and Daily Prayer.

Considerations

The Queen of Martyrs is next to the cross, in tears, but standing as an immovable rock from the tempests of her pains. In her shattered soul she experiences all the torments that her Son is suffering, torments that united to Him, High Priest and Divine Victim, she offers the heavenly Father to rescue this sinful world. The moment is solemn. At the same time the sky begins to cover itself, The divine eyes of the martyr are clouded and His face is paled. The Mother gives him a look of infinite pain. The beloved Son gave it back to her, dropping over the mantle of Sorrows, with a deep sigh, two tears of blood. What a look had those eyes! Holy God, the eyes of the dying Son and of Sorrowful Mother! “My son!”, exclaims the Virgin in a moment of supreme anguish and hides in her hands the virginal face, sobbing.

“Woman, Jesus answered, pointing to John, behold your son! Then He said to the disciple: Behold thy mother!” (Jn. 19, 26b-27). “Oh woman, the most afflicted of all women !, Oh you, of the most tender and loving heart! The most compassionate of all mothers!, turn my mother that infinite tenderness, to the beloved disciple, and in him to all men, that love without limits, that immense love of your Mother’s heart. “Jesus speaks like this! What a rich testament! He gives us His Mother as our own Mother! Contemplate, christian, these two victims: Jesus and Mary; these two hosts of the same sacrifice offered on the same altar!

Her mother’s love makes her feel, in her temples, the pressing thorns; in her hands and feet, the horrendous tearing nails; in her body, the wounds of the scourging; in her mouth, the horrors of thirst that burns the bowels of his Son and in her heart, the atrocious insults of those who insult blaspheme and mock him. Worship, with love and gratitude, the divine Redeemer and His proof of love for our most blessed Mother, Mary, and let’s make her an offering of our whole being.

Say your petition here, with great faith, firm conviction and confidence in God, followed by a few moments of silence, deep trust and serenity.

PRAYER

O Queen of sorrows and my sweetest Mother! Who could in this hour of endless pain for You, share your sorrow and love you to death? Your consolation was the Son of love that although hanging on the wooden cross, was your treasure, was your joy, was your heart. And you you were for him, in the painful abandonment of His own, the comforting balm that soothed the wound in his divine soul in the supreme agony of desolation. You, my Mother, strong as granite column before the winds of the desert, you are at the foot, next to the cross, weeping and grieving, offering to the Father infinite pain of seeing crucified the holiest of the sons of men; but you did not bear, dear mother, that your only treasure in the world, excessive love of mortals, would resign to part from His Mother to give Her to us. O, my dear Mother!, I can not hear these words of your Son and contemplate your infinite bitterness without feeling in my heart the fire of pure love for You. Let me, then, dear mother, let me me get closer to You, prostrate to your virginal feet, embracing your blessed feet and placing on them in loving kisses, all my affections to You and all my gratitude because you accepted me as your child at the foot of the cross. You are my Mother! Jesus gave you to me as inheritance of His death. Proof that you are in effect, and He can receive my prayers from You, He could was born from You and died for me. Oh Lord of Miracles !, by the sword of sorrow which pierced the foot of the cross the blessed heart of your sorrowful Mother, please hear my prayers and grant me the grace I ask for his intercession. Amen.

— Pray the Final Daily Prayer

Day Six

Start with Psalm 22, Act of Contrition and Daily Prayer.

Considerations

Jesus has released Himself of whom He most loved on earth, His Mother. And what mother was Mary for Jesus! How tenderly wrapped him in swaddling clothes in the crib, she stretched Him on her loving chest and bathed him with her tears! How she took care of Him during childhood and lived with him in His youth! What zeal for helping her divine Son in the three years of his preaching! With what singular love she accompanied Him to the top of Calvary, without fear, unlike the apostles, to the fury of the executioners of her Son! It is from that incomparable Mother, all He has on earth, Jesus releases Himself, dying, to give her to us as an inheritance and so we can say with all our heart: Mary, my mother!

But how awful loneliness for Jesus! His divine heart has been in complete desolation, abandoned by heaven and by earth. One of his disciples betrayed him, another denied Him and the others abandoned Him. The crowds He filled with benefits became raging against him and demanded His death amongst insults and blasphemies. The angels who sang Gloria in the manger and even the consoling angel of Gethsemane have flown to heaven to not witness the horrendous deicide. And finally He said goodbye to his own Mother!

The land cast Him away and He had nowhere to lay His holy feet, that is why He was hanging by the three nails. Heaven is hard and His sorrows as the rock of Calvary, and still it didn’t receive Him, because He had not yet completed the sacrifice. What a horrible loneliness! What a bitter cup! Jesus raises His dying eyes to heaven asking the Father some consolation, even a drop for His desolate heart, and the Father does not answer. The Most Holy Humanity comes to the divinity of the Word and divinity hides. Horrendous desolation! In the midst of that incomparable pain He elevates to heaven His languid look and throws a pleading cry: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me” (Mk 15:34;. Psalm 22, 2nd). Oh my goodness! Help me, to contemplate this mystery, to feel sorry for this horrible desolation of your Son, our Redeemer and offer the sweet comfort of your compassion to understand this man when He suffers and dies.

Say your petition here, with great faith, firm conviction and confidence in God, followed by a few moments of silence, deep trust and serenity.

PRAYER

Oh abandoned Jesus! How I wish at this time of desolation for Your heavy heart, to make you good company! But what can I do, my God, if my sins are precisely the universal cause of Your neglect? The apostles abandoned You; the crowds that followed You, amazed at Your wisdom and at Your miracles have become accusers and enemies; the angels who accompanied You in the manger, singing glory and those in the desert and in Gethsemane who consoled you, also have abandoned You, and You have given up the consolations of your Blessed Mother, the only strong woman in the storm, for the love for men. Even the light of the sky flee from Your presence, not to enlighten, perhaps, that bloody picture of a crucified and dying God. Also the light in Your eyes, going off at times, and the light of Your life is extinguished, begins to leave you.

And You do not complain! But you can not suffer in silence, oh lonely Lamb, the apparent abandonment of Your Father, who seems well away from Your side, because at that moment He doesn’t only see His beloved Son in whom he has put all his kindnesses (Mk . 1, 11), but in Your suffering humanity He is taking on the sins of all men, fulfilling announced by the Prophet: “We were all wandering like sheep, each to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him all our guilt “(Is. 53: 6). Similarly, the psalmist had announced: “After a life of bitterness, you will see the light, understand their destiny My servant, the righteous salvation bring many carrying their iniquities.” (Psalm 22, 11). That apparent abandonment of your Father will start this cry of supreme desolation: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”! (Mk 15:34;. Psalm 22, 2a), the cry which prolongs the pain and the abandonment of all forgotten, scorned and suffering men; cry that  accurately expresses everything said by the Psalmist (Psalm 22 Cf. whole).

For this deadly abandonment and for Your agonizing loneliness, I ask you, my Jesus, not to abandon me either in time or in eternity, and grant me the grace which confidently I ask from Your kindness. Amen

Day Seven

Start with Psalm 22, Act of Contrition and Daily Prayer.

Considerations

The desolation of Jesus was compounded by the funeral silence that hung over the summit of Calvary. Only the sighs of the sorrowful Virgin and the holy women, and the groans of the victim to the sound of the drops of blood falling on the rock were heard. As is expressed by the psalmist, right now are fulfilled in Jesus these words: “My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death” (Psalm 22, 16) .The Divine Master has His veins drained, burning entrails; a consuming thirst burning in his chest. His blessed tongue, throat and his bowels had not escaped the tyrannical fury of their enemies. No part of his humanity would escape the pain, providing more suffering to the dying martyr. In the very rictus of death approaching, Jesus exclaims: “I thirst” (Jn 19:28.).

But this divine materials agonizing thirst was just an image of that other consuming thirst that burned His divine heart with thirst for the salvation of men. His divine eyes suddenly lit up with heavenly flashes. Their look released from the confines of their homeland and extended beyond the seas to Spain, where Europe ends and continued across the Atlantic to the American nations that in future years will be Yours; In his eyes the roundness of the whole earth was wrapped and the succession of centuries to come, and contemplates the millions of human beings who populate the earth and He redeems at them at that moment and feels for them, to save them, a thirst burns in his chest and says, “I thirst” (John 19:28.). Yes, thirst for love; thirst to save the millions of human beings that populate the globe; thirst to make them happy, to take them to heaven; thirst to glorify his Father; thirst to save all sinners who suffer to death.

Christian: calm that thirst of Jesus dying, giving all your heart and all your love.

Say your petition here, with great faith, firm conviction and confidence in God, followed by a few moments of silence, deep trust and serenity.

PRAYER

Good Jesus, thirsty Jesus! Who would quench that thirst that burns Your guts! But neither could your Holy Mother, who was not even allowed the consolation of a flower soaked in water to moisten your lips, burned by thirst. The refined cruelty of executioner could be seen, yes, as he wet a sponge in vinegar and gall and approached Your thirsty lips. But allow me Lord, to calm your thirst, help me soothe Your burning thirst for the salvation of men, working in the measure of my strength for their salvation, starting with my own. I will therefore, beloved, as faithfully fulfill your divine commandments and duties of my state; I want to live in holy grace and prefer death to a single mortal sin; I want to work in social works of Christian charity and in the great need of missions in order to cooperate to plant your cross in the villages who do not know You or follow You and in this way, collaborate in spreading the Gospel throughout the world, that You may be known and loved by all men and that devouring thirst which consumes you to save all men is calmed. Give me your grace to fulfill these purposes and grant me the favor I ask in this novena. Amen.

Day Eight

Start with Psalm 22, Act of Contrition and Daily Prayer.

Considerations

A painful lament left the burning chest of Jesus, “I thirst” (Jn. 19:28), the executioners answer approaching Your lips with a sponge soaked in a bitter gall and vinegar concoction that haunts Your tongue without quenching Your thirst. Christ came from heaven to save that which was lost, and this had held the office of the Master, teaching his heavenly doctrine, and the office of the Redeemer, shedding their blood and giving His life in atonement. In the afternoon, arriving the night, the first Holy Thursday, had established his Eucharist, the mystery of faith and love; He left His apostles, columns of his Church and preachers of His gospel, trained and instructed. The divine prophecies which referred to his coming into the world, his preaching and his death had already been fulfilled; and the desires of the patriarchs and the promise made to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden were already satisfied: “I will put enmity between thee (The Demon, represented in the serpent) and the woman, between thy seed and her seed: she (the offspring of women, a specific individual) will crush your head, and you (The Demon) only bruise your heel” (Gn. 3:15). The gates of hell are closed and the sky opened wide; His Cross raised amid centuries picked the sighs of the past and filled the aspirations of the future. In a word, He complied in its entirety His divine mission. Then he exclaimed, “It is finished” (Jn 19, 30.).

Once broken, the sin of Adam and Eve, the friendship with the Creator, reset it proposes putting a feud with respect to the Devil. All this divine purpose is being fulfilled right now.

The dying face contracts in fatal convulsions and becomes more livid; the sacred body is dropped onto the nails, limp; the last drops of blood rolled slowly on the wooden cross; the heart no longer beats; eyes are turned off at the last death rattle and lips are opened to let out his last breath. But He is God, and He will give it His last proof: suddenly raises His head, looks at the sky, incorporated on the nails, and exclaims in a loud voice, “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit” (Luke 23. , 46). Bowed again on his chest and died.

Oh Christian! Life dies rid for liberating you from death. How come do you not die of love and pain?

Say your petition here, with great faith, firm conviction and confidence in God, followed by a few moments of silence, deep trust and serenity.

PRAYER

Infinite thanks be rendered unto You, Master and Savior of the world, for You have finished the work of our redemption. Your words and Your example, Your martyrs and Your cross, Your blood and Your death are an open book that teaches us to live and die on duty. Well now You can, Divine Winner, exclaiming from the Chair of the Cross: “It is finished” (John 19:30.). Yes, my God, the error, sin and hell are defeated; defeated and crushed is the power of Satan over men; mas is redeemed; the truth is preached; the divine desires are fulfilled.

Finish in me, O Crucified Christ, finish your work in me! Consume sin in me! Increase in me the life of grace and give me the holiness of my life and the grace of pleasing You unto the end, as You, divine model of the predestined, did to Your death, always pleasing your Father!

Oh, Sweet Crucified Christ! As You entrusted Your spirit into the hands of the Lord, I commend mine in Your blistered hands, but loving, open to hug me. In these adorable hands I want to die and in the aftermath rest forever and ever. From your sweet hands I hope, finally, Oh Lord of Miracles! the grace I come to implore from Your mercy. Amen

— Pray the Final Daily Prayer

Señor de los Milagros

Day Nine

Start with Psalm 22, Act of Contrition and Daily Prayer.

Considerations

At the moment when Jesus gave up His spirit to the Father throughout the world the earth shook to its foundations. The sun refused her light and a moonless and starless darkness enveloped the world. Rocks opened and clashed against each other. The crosses of Calvary swayed like arrows that are stuck in a bulls-eyes. Graves returned their dead, who roamed as wrapped in their white shrouds like ghosts. “The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom” (Mk. 15:38) and the terrified people kept dead silence before that dreadful commotion of nature. “And the centurion who stood facing him, saw that He expired in that way, he said: – Truly this man was the Son of God” (Mk 15:39.). And all were hitting their chests imploring mercy from heaven.

Only the blessed Mother of Sorrows, John and the holy women remained at the Holy Mountain. Mary is embracing the sacred cross and crying with her, without consolation, were her faithful companions. Suddenly, amid the shadows away, the figure of an armed soldier with a spear crept forward. The legs of the thieves have just been smashed with iron maces to hasten their death. But Jesus is dead and the prophecy that none of his bones would be broken (cf. Jn. 19.36) held. A soldier arrives, and getting closer to Jesus, throws his spear, plunging it mercilessly and crosses His adorable Heart, out of which flow the last drops of blood that had taken refuge in its loving folds.

Who can say what Mary suffered, seeing the fury of the Jews against her divine Son, to the point of hurting him, after death? Saint Bernard says: “Mysteries of love! Jesus was no longer there to feel the blow, but the Divine Mother suffered in her heart the cruel stab!”. It opened as well, a shelter for the sinner, in the HEART OF GOD himself!

Say your petition here, with great faith, firm conviction and confidence in God, followed by a few moments of silence, deep trust and serenity.

PRAYER

O Mother of love and pain! Mother, dear! Tell me what was the pain of your heart to see the soldier, no longer respecting the dead body of your Son, he come up to him and stabbed him without compassion, with the spear, to open his divine Heart! Also yours, dear Mother, was torn with infinite pain, with great sorrow, with a torrent of tears. The prophetic words of Simeon: “And yourself a sword will pierce your heart …” (Lk 2:35.) were not in vain.

Oh beloved Lord of Miracles! Receive the incomparable pains of your Blessed Mother as discount of my many and great sins; and for the love which You have for her, guard me during my whole life, and especially at the hour of my death, in that holy sore that was opened by the spear in Your most blessed Heart. Your love wasn’t satisfied with Your torn back lashed by whips, Your temples drilled with thorns, Your feet and Your hands pierced with nails, Your tongue embittered with gall and Your ears hurt with blasphemy, but You allowed your side and opened and your heart to be hurt so that I could find a safe refuge.

Oh my beloved crucified Redeemer!, with what would I pay so much love? Smite, Lord, my heart with wounds of love and with the pain so that I can love you so much that you can die of love and compassion for You!

And You, my sweetest Mother!, New Eve! Mother of Divine Grace! Grant me the grace to be a true son of your pain, cry my sins, cause of the torments of your Son and your immense bitterness, and that I can give you the comfort of a holy life and a happy death within your maternal arms! Also obtain for me the favor I come to ask in this novena for the glory of my sweet Lord of the Miracles and for yours, O Mary, my sweet Mother! Amen.
